Leland Blue Stone Stud Earrings beaded hoop earringsLeland blue stone, a slag glass that remains from iron refining that is found in the upper peninsula of Michigan. Leland was an industrial town anchored by the iron industry. Heaps of iron slag were dumped into the harbor on Lake Michigan. These pieces of slag glass continue to wash up on these beaches today, and are collected and sometimes cut into pieces that can be cut into cabochons that can be used in jewelry.
